The Action «Sick of it» and the city authorities
On March, 9th in the city executive committee session a round table concerning the beginning of the action of the public protest «Sick of it» of the charity fund “Pilgrim” has taken place. The action’s motto: «You still sell drugs? Then we go to you!»
In the beginning of the meeting the city mayor Jury Hotlubej has noticed, that the president of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko gives special attention to the help to homeless and to the struggle against drug addiсtion. Only on the official statistics in Mariupol there are about 3 thousand addicts, from them – 160 are minors.
The Mayor Jury Hotlubej has invited to the meeting the heads of power structures, regional administrations, chiefs of public health departments, formations, the main expert in narcology of the city, the chief of department on struggle against drug trafficking.
The director of the fund “Pilgrim”, pastor Gennady has told about an essence of the action which is directed on struggle against drug-dealing in our city.
Chief of the department in control of drug’s circulation in reply to the received information has noted: «Because of imperfection of the legislation we cannot make accountable the drug dealers since some narcotic substances have been translated by the Ministry of Health in the category of medicines».
On this statement the city mayor has instructed to put police posts near each place of drug sale because, «we continue to lose people, and at this very time someone earns big money for someone’s death». «We allocate one million UAH from the city budget for the aid to police, and we will not admit such feebleness», – Jury Hotlubej has added.
Also the city mayor has made an order to prepare the project of a medical institution of the closed type for treatment of the drug addicts and to organize constant preventive work at colleges and schools of Mariupol.
