Pastor of the Church of Good Change Wins “Light of Justice” Award

On December 3, the IX ceremony of presenting the “Light of Justice” award took place. This year, the laureate was chosen from among those who have confirmed their sacrifice and leadership in the field of social service and the protection of the rights and dignity of those in need.
The winner is a public figure, pastor of the “Church of Good Changes”, bishop of the Pentecostal Church of God in Ukraine and the father of 38 children from Mariupol – Gennadiy Mokhnenko.
He was presented with the award during a ceremony in Kiev.
The Light of Justice award is intended to draw attention to value leadership in Ukraine, to the importance of moral principles in conducting and popularizing examples of such leadership in Ukrainian society.
By the decision of the chapter, which annually chooses the laureate, Gennadiy Mokhnenko, with his selfless work and calling, has been an example of good service, of selfsacrifice in solving social problems and saving human lives.
Since the foundation, ten people have been awarded. Among them: a publicist Yevgeny Sverstiuk, a leader of the Crimean Tatar national movement Mustafa Dzhemilev, a journalist and investigator of corruption schemes Natalya Sedletskaya, an editor-in-chief of the publishing house “Duch and Litera” Leonid Finberg, a head of the NGO “Forest Initiatives and Society” Dmitry Korobchuk.
Last year, the medics became the laureates of the award: Olga Martynenko, a head of the infectious diseases department of the central city hospital in Rubezhnoye, and Ivan Venzhinovich, a family therapist, from Pochaev (he was awarded posthumously).
“We are looking for people who emit light; we look to those who seek and love the truth and are ready to serve the truth. We look to those who know how to love other people and are ready to serve these people. And it is love that enables these people to shine with the light of justice; and it is the love of these people that makes justice alive and real, ”commented Vladimir Turchinovsky, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the UCU, a member of the Chapter of the Light of Justice award.

The Light of Justice award was founded in 2010 by Anastasia Shkilnyk, a Canadian of Ukrainian origin (died in 2014) and Boris Gudzyak, Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, head of the Philadelphia Archdiocese in the United States, President of the UCU, in honor of Anastasia’s father, Dr. Mikhail Shkilnyk – lawyer, public and political figure during the liberation movement in Ukraine in 1917-1920. The organizer of the “Light of Justice” award ceremony is the Institute of Leadership and Management of the UCU.
