“Republic Pilgrim” in the war time receives new citizens.
Within the last few years the number of kids who got to the rehabilitation in the State of the Former Street kids was steadily decreasing. The management of the Charity Fund “Pilgrim” was ready to admit that the need in rehabilitation disappears but these few war years made some corrections in it. Presently the children’s center “Republic Pilgrim” is steadily overcrowded.
Mainly the children that are on rehabilitation presently are the kids from the families of refugees, from unsafe families as well from the impoverished during the war families. Left without parental care and attention the kids and the teenagers find themselves on streets, get attracted to some antisocial companies, and they try the various narcotic stuff. The type of drugs changes but the issue is still there – the teens left alone face to face with the evil get overcome by the evil.
Tatyana Karpukhina, the director of the children’s center “Republic Pilgrim”: “Very recently we received a girl in the Pilgrim, she was brought here by the police. She is from the full family, father and mother, but the teen is already noted by the police as an aggressive and a socially dangerous person. The girl was not living at home, always ran away, was searched by the police, refused to study and rejected all kinds of rules and laws. Her parents didn’t hope that the rehabilitation in “Republic Pilgrim” can hold her. They thought she would run away right away. We were very surprised when after spending a few nights in our center the girl started thawing. And we started losing the alertness that she will run away any minute. I can’t say that we see the radical changes for now but at least the first steps encourage us. The girl started studying, not everything is smooth sure enough but we believe that with the help of God we will be able to help her”.
One more story told by Tatyana Karpukhina happened to one more quite a normal family but the girl get connected with a bad company and completely refused to accept the authority of adults, abandoned school. Now the girl started building contacts with the inhabitants of the children’s center, shows interest in sports, has become more open to people, made friends with other kids and participates in the life of the “Pilgrim”.
One of the newbies in “Republic Pilgrim” is a boy who at the age of almost 14 had time to experience a lot of so called “pleasures” of life. He was living with a girl, drank alcohol, smoked, and used toxic drugs. At the first day of his staying in Pilgrim his “ girl-friend” came and demanded to let her in to his room. All the personnel of the Pilgrim was worrying that the guy who lived a life of an adult person will not have any desire to take part in the events organized for the kids of the center but he quickly became the part of the collective and in his case the rehab tourism helped him. And his maturity is not just shown in temptations but is being useful for him in everyday matters. The guy fully accomplishes all the requirements of the educators and mentors, obey the laws of the Republic, treat its citizens with patience and restrain.
Tatyana Karpukhina, the director of the center “ Republic Pilgrim”: “ All these guys are only in the beginning of their way of rehabilitation, but each of them has already gain first victories over themselves, and we believe in the further good changes in their lives".
